Originally, one was able to obtain a list of all car owners by make and model in almost any area of the country. This information was readily available in 34 states through their state motor vehicle agency.
The Driver Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) as amended by the 2000 Shelby Law now allows modified automotive information
to be distributed.
The NATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE DATABASE is the premier database for automotive direct mail advertising. It is published in full compliance with the federal DPPA. It is compiled using more than 100
highly accurate statistical screens, ranking households by their likelihood of owning a particular automobile. Household demographic and neighborhood distribution data is also included.
As per the requirements of the Act, these lists cannot be more than 70% accurate. However, all PRE SHELBY LAW ENACTMENT data, regarding vehicle ownership, (virtually 100% accurate), is included
in the National Automotive Database.
